Browning Funeral Home became Seven Oaks Funeral Home after a fire in downtown Water Valley, on September 13, 2001, destroyed the only funeral home in town and the Copperhead Antique Store and Restaurant. Three months after the fire, the purchase of the Browning Funeral Home, from the Canadian group Alderwoods, began. Charlie Harris, Liz Reynolds, and Steve Holland began the difficult task of finding a suitable site, and the task of construction. There was also the responsibility of continuing to serve the community's needs without the comfort of a building. The community reached out to us, and the Water Valley Church of Christ let us use their minister's home as an office and offered the use of their fellowship hall for visitation. Each of the local churches responded by letting us use the churches for services and visitations. We firmly believe that Water Valley is the only place in the world where we could have operated fourteen months without a building, and we will be forever grateful for the courtesies shown to us. On December 7, 2002, we moved into the new building. Dedication of the building was in February 2003, and the building itself is dedicated to the families and their loved ones we served while we were without a building. There is a large walnut plaque with each name engraved on individual brass plaques in the hallway outside the chapel doors in their honor and everlasting memory. The chapel is dedicated and named honoring Hamric and Dorothy Jane Henry. They are the true testament of the influence for good works that a funeral home can have. Their names are synonymous with the funeral business in Water Valley.
Our goal in the new building was to retain the small town warmth while having a convenient, full-service facility, offering traditional as well as contemporary services for the area. We strive to have each service personalized to meet the families' request, at prices that are affordable to all. Our facilities are modern, spacious, and designed with the families' needs and desires in mind. We have two spacious suites, a large visitation foyer, a coffee lounge, a clergy room, and a chapel that seats over 250 people comfortably. Seven Oaks is conveniently located on a five-acre lot at the intersection of Highway 7 south and Highway 32 west at the south end of the by-pass in Water Valley. This provides convenient access from all areas with easy entrance and 80 parking spaces to accommodate all. Charlie Harris, Liz Reynolds, Steve Holland, and the entire staff invite you and your family to become a part of the 129-year-old tradition of professional, caring service that has so long been a part of the heritage of Water Valley thru Seven Oaks Funeral Home, Browning Funeral Home, Henry Funeral Home, and the Water Valley Funeral Home over the past 129 years. We are locally owned and operated; each staff member is guided by the same principle — Each individual is special to someone and is to be treated with dignity, respect, and professionalism.
