    Wesley Lee Nicholas

    June 25, 1929 - June 30, 2021

    Wesley L. Nicholas, age 92 of Oxford, MS. Was born June 25, 1929 to Charlie and Eutha Nicholas. He was loved by his family, friends, and many church members he ministered to through 63 years of ministry. He is survived by his children, Susan Blanchard (Paul) of Louisville, MS., Robert Nicholas (Janice) of Winona, MS., Ray Nicholas (Celeste) of Oxford, MS, Roger Nicholas (Margaret) of North Richland Hills, TX; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Wesley Nicholas surrendered his life to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ on January 6, 1957 at North Oxford Baptist Church. He was licensed to the ministry by North Oxford Baptist Church on June 30, 1957 and ordained to the ministry on October 25, 1959. Brother Nicholas faithfully preached God’s word for 63 years until he was just physically unable to continue. He attended and graduated from Clarke Memorial College, and then went on to attend Union University in Jackson, TN and ultimately graduated from Ole Miss. His ministry has been one of faithfulness. Having served churches in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama, he has touched the lives of countless families and individuals. Only Heaven knows how many individuals have come to know Jesus as their personal savior and Lord through his faithful witness and ministry. Listed below are the churches her served as pastor, interim pastor, and long term supply. 1. The Country Church- Benton County, MS. (1958) 2. Matthews Baptist Church- Sardis (1960-1962) 3. Hickory Grove Baptist Church- Tate County, MS. (1962-1966) 4. Friendship Baptist Church- Tennessee (1967) 5. Bethel Baptist Church- Henderson, TN. (1967-1969) 6. Bethel Baptist Church- Oxford, MS. (1969-1971) 7. Shady Grove Baptist Church- Batesville, MS. (1972-1974) 8. First Faith Baptist Church- Batesville, MS. (1975-1981) 9. North Oak Grove Baptist Church- Millry, AL. (1981-1983) 10. Cherry Street Baptist Church- Clarksdale, MS. (1983-1994) 11. Interim Pastor, Elam Baptist Church- Coffeeville, MS. 12. Calvary Baptist Church- Coffeeville, MS. (1996-1999) 13. Hopewell Baptist Church- Yalobusha County (2005) 14. Preached at Sand Springs Presbyterian Church until 2019 After retirement, he maintained his church membership at the Clear Creek Baptist Church of Oxford.
