Mrs. Alice Fay (Vaughn) Allen passed from this life to eternal rest on 26 November, 2023. Mrs. Allen was born on 11 January, 1936, to Houston Greenwood Vaughn and Jenny Lou(Simpson) Vaughn in Water Valley, MS. She was the oldest of five children. Mrs. Allen graduated from Water Valley High School in May, 1954 and played girls basketball. She often fondly recalled a high school graduation present from her uncle, Clyde Jennings, who escorted her on a trip to New York City, where she toured the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Grand Central Station, the Empire State Building and other notable locations.
After graduating from high school in May, 1954, she married James Stevens Allen of Coffeeville, MS, on 8 August, 1954, in Cleveland, MS. They remained married for 65 years. Mr. Allen then returned to military service in the USAF, after having been wounded in the Korean War. Mr. and Mrs. Allen had two sons. Marc Stevens Allen was born on 3 June, 1956 at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX and William Boyd Allen on 8 May, 1957 in Oxford, MS. As a military wife, Mrs. Allen lived in TX, MS, VA, MD and NJ. She also lived in the United Kingdom for four years. While living in England, Mrs. Allen travelled to Scotland, Holland, France and Germany and toured extensively in England. Mr. Allen became an ordained minister in 1971 and after retiring from military service in 1973, he became a full time minister. Mrs. Allen supported him as a pastor's wife in several churches in SC, LA and MS. While in the UK, Mrs. Allen was a volunteer in the base hospital and in the early 80's was a housing coordinator at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, while Mr. Allen completed his Master's Degree.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James S. Allen; her parents, Houston and Jenny(Simpson) Vaughn; two sisters, Judy(Vaughn) Lantrip and Teresia(Vaughn) Olivis and a brother, David Vaughn. Mrs. Allen is survived her two sons, Marc and Will(Tammy), seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation is planned for Thursday, November 30, 2023, in the Gardiner Room of Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Dr. Randy Bain officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bereavement Committee fund of the First Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS.
