Angela Deniece Fowler, born May 3, 1960, in Starkville, Mississippi, passed away on February 8, 2026, in Oxford, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her mother Clois Vaughn, her father Thomas Wofford Jr., and her brother Reggie Wofford. She leaves behind her brothers Randy Wofford, Ronnie Wofford, and Joe Wofford, and her beloved daughter, Lexi Fowler, who will deeply cherish her memory. Deniece counted it as the greatest gift from God to be the mother of Lexi, her pride and joy and best friend.
When Lexi started kindergarten at Davidson Elementary School in Water Valley, Deniece began working as a teacher’s assistant there. The school staff and students immediately gravitated toward her warm, welcoming spirit. She later transferred to Water Valley High School. While her title was secretary, she wore many hats - counselor, confidant, encourager, leader, mentor, friend, mother. She was truly an anchor for the school and community.
Deniece poured her life into her church, First Christian Church of Water Valley, which was her heart and soul. She was beloved beyond measure by the children of the church whom she taught to know and love Jesus. She was a dedicated servant, teaching Sunday school, junior church, vacation Bible school, Wednesday night church, and the after-school program. Her prayer was for the children to serve and love others like Jesus. This passion led her to start “A Prayer and a Meal” ministry, where she and the kids visited, prayed over, sang with, and delivered meals to members of the congregation and community. Deniece went above and beyond as she taught the children of the church, dressing up like Bible characters, creating motions to worship songs, and showing the kids that life with Jesus is fun.
Although many would never know it, Deniece dealt with significant health struggles for the past 10 years of her life. However, time and again, she surpassed the doctor’s predictions. Doctors were shocked by how she continued to live her life to the fullest. The joy of the Lord was truly her strength. During her health journey, she experienced a deep closeness to Jesus she had never felt before, and her heart was for others to not delay and choose Jesus today. When Deniece learned she would need to begin dialysis, her response was, “There must be someone there who needs to know about Jesus.” As she walked into dialysis each day with a smile or a goodie bag for everyone, her joy stood in stark contrast to what could have been a dark place. When nurses and patients asked her where her joy came from, she was so excited to share her answer - Jesus.
How Deniece lived her life was how she lived each day, on a mission to love God and love people. She simply wanted everyone to know her Jesus. Her desire was not to be remembered by her own name - only Jesus.
A visitation will be held at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS, on Friday, February 13th, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM. The graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Water Valley, MS.
