Betty Jean Woody

Betty Jean (Cobb) Woody, age 88, of Oxford, MS went to her forever home Saturday, July 31, 2022, at Elison Assisted Living in Oxford, MS. She was born October 16, 1933, in Nashville, TN to George and Effie (Gamble) Cobb. Betty was an energetic woman who possessed a tender and loving heart. While in school, she fell in love with David Woody, and on the day of her graduation from school married him and began their life long journey together. After Tim became old enough, Betty went to work at a beauty salon in Donaldson, TN. In 2002, after they had retired, she and David moved to the Tocopola community where they became members and served at Shiloh Baptist Church. Betty genuinely loved people and, it is said, had the gift of conversation. When she wasn't knitting scarves, she loved to be on the move, getting out seeing people and places. But nothing held a deeper place in her heart than that of her family.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Betty is survived by her children Vicky (Sammy) Lanier, of Water Valley, Timothy Lee (Trica) Woody of Pontotoc, MS; three grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Heavner of Oxford, MS, Rachel Woody of Baton Rouge, LA, Zach (Kristin) Woody of Memphis, TN; and one sister, Ann Shirley of Columbia, TN.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband David Woody; and her parents, George and Effie Cobb.
