Charlene Chapman Boxx, age 96, of Coffeeville, MS, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 8, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born July 13, 1926, in Cascilla, MS, to the late Christopher Corace and Hattie Rae (Shackelford) Chapman.
After finishing high school at Jeff Davis in Water Valley, MS, where she was valedictorian, Charlene moved to Memphis, TN, where she worked at Memphis Municipal Airport during World War 2. She would marry Rayford Boxx, the love of her life, after he returned from overseas service. Later they moved to Coffeeville where they would start the family she adored with all of her heart. Charlene was primarily a homemaker. She served her family well and she is described by her children and grandchildren as very caring, selfless, and loving. These characteristics were very evident in her life as she had a heart for helping others. She did so in the community and First Baptist Church, Coffeeville, where she taught Sunday School in the children's department for many years. She loved cooking, gardening, canning, sewing and collecting many different things, including old bottles and artifacts. She loved and cared for many dogs and cats throughout her life. Charlene will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Visitation is planned for Saturday, June 10, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Coffeeville, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Funeral Service will follow immediately at 3:30 p.m. with Brother Craig Baker and Brother Truman Scarborough officiating.
Burial will be in Coffeeville City Cemetery.
Charlene is survived by two sons, Ray Boxx (Karen) of Water Valley, MS; Charles Boxx (Denise) of Coffeeville, MS; one daughter, Mary Dawn Peeples of Coffeeville, MS; six grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by her husband Rayford Boxx and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Middleton.
