Clyde Mitchell, affectionately known as "PAPA," was born on June 15, 1946, in Water Valley, Mississippi to his proud parents Earl and Clara (Burgess) Mitchell. He peacefully passed away on November 15, 2023, at his home in Panola County. Clyde's departure from this world leaves a void that can never be filled.

Clyde spent his formative years in Water Valley and then Batesville, where he attended Patton Lane High School and graduated in 1964. His commitment to education laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors.

Following his graduation, Clyde answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army and served his nation with honor and bravery until his honorable discharge in 1968. Clyde's military service instilled in him values of loyalty, dedication, and commitment that would guide him throughout his life.

After his time in the Army, Clyde returned to his beloved Water Valley, where he embarked on a career in the construction trade and ultimately retired from a Supervisory position at Batesville Casket Co. His dedication, hard work and expertise left an indelible mark on the company and earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Clyde's love story began when he met the love of his life, Lena Toliver, whom he married in 1972. Their love was a shining example of commitment and devotion, and they built a beautiful life together, savoring every moment and creating cherished memories.

Devoted to his faith, Clyde was an esteemed member of the Pleasant Green M.B. Church. His presence and unwavering commitment to serving the Lord enriched the spiritual lives of those around him. Clyde's involvement in church activities reflected his kind and compassionate nature, always extending a helping hand to anyone in need.

Clyde's legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind to carry his memory with pride and love are his two beloved daughters, Trina Buford of Oxford, MS, and Tawanda (Corey) Hill of Batesville, MS; one God-daughter, Ardis (Greg) Amos of Grenada, MS; one brother, Charles (Bertha) Mitchell of Newport News, VA; three sisters, Lottie (Lafayette) Smith of Arlington, TN, Annie Giddens and Sadie (Arnold) Cooper all of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

As well as his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Mitchell, Coleman Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, and Joseph Mitchell; and three sisters, Laura Mitchell, Massie Buford, and Bertha Lloyd.

A wake to honor and remember Clyde's remarkable life will take place on Sunday, November 19, 2023, in the Gardiner Room at the Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, beginning at 5:00 pm. The following day, Monday, November 20, 2023, a funeral service will be held at the Pleasant Green M.B. Church at 1:00 pm, culminating in his burial in the church cemetery.

Clyde Mitchell's existence touched the lives of many, leaving an enduring impact on the community, his loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kind spirit and gentle soul will be immensely missed, but his memories will forever bring comfort and joy.

May his soul find eternal peace, and may we all be inspired by his example of love, faith, and perseverance.
