Doris Potts

Doris Sue "Susie" Godwin Potts, 72, passed away December 7th, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. Services will be handled by Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS and will be held at Anchor Baptist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 9th, from 5:00pm-7:00pm and Wednesday, December 10th from 10:00am-11:00am, followed by the funeral at 11:00am, with Bro. Stacy Watkins and Bro. Gerald Shook officiating. Services will be followed by the burial at Driver's Flat.

Susie was born on August 10th, 1953, in Greenville, MS to Clarence E. Godwin and Marjorie "Margie" Ann Harrison Godwin, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Leland High School then went on to attend Business College in Jackson, MS. Upon moving to Water Valley, MS, in 1971, she met Rufus Dean "Buster" Potts, who she married on April 18th, 1975. This year, they celebrated the milestone of being married 50 years. In her younger years, Susie held an array of jobs including working at Big Star in Water Valley and Johnson Furniture, and, after having children, driving a school bus for several years. She and Buster also ran B&S Grocery for four years. Later, Susie settled into a career at the University of Mississippi, where she worked from 1996 until she retired in 2019.

Susie could often be found singing both solo and with the choir at Anchor Baptist Church, which brought her much joy. She also enjoyed coloring on her iPad and decorating. Above all, however, she most cherished time spent being "MeMe" to her grandsons and, later, her great-grandchildren, Hudson and Scarlett, who were her pride and joy. In recent years, she had the pleasure of keeping Scarlett during the day to allow Scarlett's parents to work, which was particularly enjoyable for Susie, as she was the mother of three sons and seven grandsons. She was thrilled to welcome a baby girl into the family after being surrounded by only men all those years!

Susie is survived by her husband, Buster Potts; two brothers, Eddie (Vickie) Godwin of Water Valley, MS, and Danny (Susan) Godwin of Horn Lake, MS; three sisters, Pat Potts of Water Valley, MS, Shirley (George) Wells of Water Valley, MS, and Becky (Robert) Ball of Fairview, TN; her three sons, Michael Wayne Potts of Gulfport, MS, Joseph Thomas Potts, and Rufus Glenn Potts, both of Water Valley, MS; seven grandsons, Wesley (Lacee) Potts, Austin (Hannah) Potts, Shean Potts, Preston Potts, Conner Potts, Lane Potts, and Josh Potts, all of Water Valley, MS; and two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Potts and Hudson Potts of Water Valley, MS, along with a host of nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
