James "Buddy" Durr Jr.

James Doyle "Buddy" Durr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed from this life on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the age of 67. He was born on September 15, 1956, in Belzoni, Mississippi, to the late James Durr and Annie (Smith) Durr.

Buddy was a dedicated family man who valued his loved ones above all else. He leaves behind a profound legacy of love and strength. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Durr; his children, Jeremy Fuller, Hollie Bell, and Waid Durr (Brandi); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, with one on the way; one sister, Audrey Mason; three nephews; and one niece.

Being an industrious individual, Buddy graduated from Humphrey's Academy in Belzoni and continued his education at MS Delta Community College where he would receive a degree in electronics. He then pursued a career in radio and television repair to the point of owning his own repair shop in Belzoni. Later Buddy would dive off into the oil and gas industry, working diligently in the maintenance field for Columbia Gulf Gas Company for thirty plus years until his retirement.

Buddy had a passion for archery and achieved remarkable success as a pro archery shooter, earning numerous titles throughout his career including 3 world championships, 15 national titles, 41 top 5 national finishes, and 10 state titles. His love for the sport led him to establish the first archery club in Belzoni where he shared his love of archery to others, drawing numerous young people to a new hobby. Buddy also enjoyed hunting, golfing, and working in his yard. Buddy was also a member of the southern senior golf association. He relished in sharing stories of his accomplishments but was equally eager to highlight the achievements of his children and grandchildren, whom he celebrated with immense pride.

In his community, James was known for his altruistic nature and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need, even serving his church on the security team. He selflessly assisted others, leaving a lasting impression on all whose lives he touched.
