James Tate

James Albert Tate, passed from this life on June 13, 2025, at his home in Water Valley, MS. Born on April 15, 1939, in Water Valley, Jim lived a full life, most notably serving in the Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller after graduating high school in 1957.

After his service, Jim spent around 50 years in retail sales, working primarily with weigh stations. For many, he was a familiar face around town, especially at Water Valley Blue Devils football games, where he cheered on the team alongside his friends.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia (Ginger) Tate, son Glenn (Buckwheat) Tate of Water Valley, and daughter Michelle Mahaffey (Georgia). He was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Pop." He was preceded in death by his son, James Michael Tate, and his daughter, Tammy Renee Crowder, both of Water Valley.
