It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janie Grace Mize, affectionately known as Aunt Grace, who left this world on October 26, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on June 8, 1935, in Oxford, Mississippi, Janie was a vibrant spirit who touched the lives of so many around her. After finishing Yocona High School, where she notably played basketball, she devoted herself to family, love, and her work.
For 42 beautiful years, Aunt Grace was married to her husband, Rayford Mize, who honorably served in the U.S. Navy. They created a lifetime of cherished memories together. Janie spent 26 dedicated years as a seamstress at Big Yank, skillfully threading her passion into every stitch.
In her personal life, Aunt Grace had a green thumb, and her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Whether it was her beloved roast or her special skillet corn, her cooking left a lasting impression and created warm memories around the dinner table. Most of all, she had a heart full of love for her grandchildren, Christopher and Mollie, always ready to shower them with affection and wisdom.
Janie is survived by her son, Reggie Mize (Maria) of Oxford; grandchildren, Christopher Randall Mize, Mollie Kate Mize; her brother-in-law, Bill Dennis; sister-in-law, Wanda Mize; a special niece and nephew, Wayne and Viann Dennis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne Mize and Envie Mize; husband, Rayford Mize; one grandson, Ryan Randall Mize; sister, Meredith Dennis; and brother, Calvin Mize.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at New El-Bethel Church in Lafayette County.
As we celebrate Aunt Grace’s life, may we remember the love, warmth, and joy she brought to everyone she met. She will be immensely missed, but her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
