Jannette Womble of Water Valley, Mississippi, peacefully passed away at her home on January 8, 2026. Born on that same day in 1950 in Water Valley, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Henry Womble and Elnor Johnson Womble. A devoted servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, Jan expressed her faith through song, praise, and helping others in need. She and her late twin sister Ann performed in an a cappella choir while attending Ole Miss. She continued her vocal ministry as an active member of the choir at Bethel Baptist Church in Water Valley, where she worshiped for many years. Jan was known for her generosity and helping others in their time of need.
For twenty-five years Jan dedicated her life to educating students as a faculty member at Northwest Community College in Senatobia. She was an avid reader and in 1983, Jan channeled her passion for books into writing her own, successfully publishing her first novel, “The Challenge of Her Life”.
Jan had a life-long affection for animals and passed with the comfort and companionship of her dogs Pippi and Trixie, and Wally the cat, at her bedside.
Jan is survived by her sister Patricia Oliphant of Mandeville, Louisiana, two nephews, Jay and Scott Oliphant, her caregiver Jennifer Swinkowski, along with her church family, former students, and close friends.
Along with her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her sisters Annette Womble Still and Fran Womble.
A funeral service is planned for Thursday, January 15, at Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will host a visitation at the funeral home prior to the service at 10:00 AM.
Jan’s wishes were to request donations in lieu of flowers to the Baptist Mission for Forgotten Peoples: www.bmfp.org.
