John James Crow, Jr.

January 18, 1951 — March 20, 2024

John James Crow, Jr.

John J. Crow Jr. died on March 20, 2024 at the age of 73. He was born in Helena, Arkansas, to the late John J. Crow Sr. and Joy Underwood Crow. With his family, John moved to Water Valley in 1964. He graduated from Water Valley High School in 1969 and then attended the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. John further attended and graduated from Mississippi College School of Law. Following a time of work in the Louisiana Oil and Gas industry, John and Jane, with infant son Bennett, returned home to Water Valley and opened his law practice in 1980. With a love of the law, diligence, integrity, and many late nights, he built a successful law practice, providing clients with the best legal service he could offer. In 1981, John was appointed legal counsel for the Yalobusha County Board of Supervisors, a position he held until 2021. He also served as attorney for the city of Water Valley. He retired in 2021,
leaving his partners Daniel M. Martin and John Shannon Crow
to continue providing honorable legal services.

John was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Water Valley where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and numerous committees. During his years in Water Valley, he was a member of various civic organizations and supporter as well as coach of the Magnolia Youth League.

Becoming Pop to his nine grandchildren brought unmeasured joy to his life. Insisting that the high chair be placed by his chair, he delighted in slipping ice cream in little mouths when parents weren’t looking, sneaking them Oreo's, teaching the fine art of dipping graham crackers in milk, and being sure that he was responsible for their first sucker. He rode many hours with a
child in his lap on a tractor, gator or lawnmower.

John is survived by his wife, Jane Henry Crow; children, Bennett Crow (Kristen) of Cleveland, MS, Anna Crow Gordon (Jerry), Shannon Crow (Whitney) both of Water Valley; Nine grandchildren, Sam Crow, Lula Crow, Cate Crow, Mallie Jane Gordon, Walker Gordon, Mary Latham Gordon, Lottie Crow, Zola Crow, and Ryan Crow; and his sister Janice Crow Joyner.

He was preceded in death by both parents, John J. Crow, Sr and Joy
Underwood Crow as well as one sister, Deborah Crow Babb.
