Mark Steven Hollister, 65, of Water Valley, MS passed away on December 29th, 2022 while in Oxford Health and Rehab. He was preceded in death by his parents Willard & Helen Hollister, his brothers Joe, Dave, and Dan Hollister and his granddaughter Adeline Reid Hollister. He is survived by his two sons Brent and Shane Hollister, grand daughter Chandler Reid Hollister and his brother John Hollister.
Mark was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on January 9th 1957 to Willard and Helen Hollister and got to travel the world while his father was active in the Air Force. It was later in childhood when the family settled in Water Valley, Mississippi. Mark finished high school at Water Valley in 1976. He played football and loved all sports his entire life. One thing he especially loved to do was cook. His parents owned a café in Water Valley “Hollisters Café” where he enjoyed working and cooking.
Mark made water skiing look easy. He loved being at the lake every chance he could and taught many people how to ski behind his boat over the years. When not skiing he also loved to hunt and fish.
Mark was married shortly after High School to Karen Sutherland from Water Valley. Their firstborn, Brent came soon after in 1978 followed by their second son Shane in 1989.
He was a man that loved and got along with everyone. He had many good friends in his corner all through life and he could make you laugh at the drop of a hat just by being himself. Everyone else’s well being always came before his own and he loved his friends and family more than anything else. He was truly a rich man when it came to those he loved and loved him back.
Mark worked for Georgia Pacific as an operator for years before having to retire early due to health. He spent the remaining years taking care of his family and his father towards the end of his life.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday January 3, 2023 from in the Gardiner Room of Seven Oaks Funeral Home form 10AM until 12PM. A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow immediately in the Henry Chapel at Noon.
