With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of Michael Gene Burrowes, lovingly known as "Smiley," who departed this world on June 8, 2026, at the age of 41. Born on October 20, 1984, in Grenada, MS, Michael's journey brought him to the tranquil space of Courtland, MS, where he embraced the beauty of life surrounded by nature.
Michael was more than just a skilled brick mason; he was a devoted father to his cherished son, Michael Andrew Burrowes. His love ran deep, and his generosity knew no bounds. As he crafted each brick wall, he laid the foundation of love and kindness in the hearts of all who knew him.
The outdoors was Michael's sanctuary-whether he was fishing or hunting, he found joy in the simplicity of life. He had a particular fondness for deep-sea fishing, always dreaming of the next great adventure on the water. An ardent caretaker, he loved all the animals that crossed his path and showed unwavering support to his family, especially his mother, during her times of need.
Michael leaves behind countless memories filled with laughter, warmth, and kindness. His spirit touched everyone around him, and while he may no longer be with us, the legacy of his compassion will forever brighten our hearts.
We will gather to celebrate Michael's life during the following services: Family viewing will take place at Seven Oaks Funeral Home on June 16, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM. Visitation will follow at 12:00 PM, leading into the funeral service at 2:00 PM. As we come together to honor Michael, we will share stories, smiles, and the love he so freely gave.
Michael is survived by his loving son, Michael Andrew Burrowes; his mother, Martha Jean Burrowes; his sister, Misty Burrowes; and his treasured nieces, Faith and Destiny, along with his nephew, Devin. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Gene Burrowes.
In this challenging time, let's hold each other close and keep the spirit of Michael alive through our shared memories. While we mourn his absence, we celebrate the profound impact he made on all of our lives-an enduring legacy of love that will never fade.
