Wanda Larson, age 90, died Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at her home in Oxford, MS. She was born on November 8, 1935, in Arkansas to the late Edith Dickerson and Elmer Luther Weems. She was the youngest child of three, with two brothers: the late Howard Weems and the late Billy Weems. The Weems family moved to Water Valley during her 6th-grade year, where she met Bill Larson, whose family lived just down the street. She and Bill became childhood friends through school until her family relocated to Memphis, TN. Bill stayed in touch, making many trips to see her, sometimes “thumbing” rides to get there. While living in Memphis, she worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell. They married on August 23, 1955, and their only child, Mark, was born on December 6, 1957, after they had moved back to Water Valley. She helped in the Larson Family Stores in various roles over the years. She was a loyal member of the First Methodist Church of Water Valley, serving as a Sunday School teacher and in many other roles. Wanda was known as “NeNe” to her family and friends. She loved family time, reading, and shopping. She and Bill traveled the globe with friends and associates in the grocery industry. For many years, they attended Ole Miss football games, both in Oxford and away. NeNe was an avid Rebel football fan! They celebrated their 90th birthdays and 70th wedding anniversary in 2025.
Wanda is survived by her husband of 70 years, Bill Larson of Oxford, MS; one son Mark (Daisha) Larson of Oxford, MS; three grandchildren, Chad (Linda) Larson of Nesbit, MS, Nathanael Abernethy of Colorado Springs, CO, Alan (Avery) Larson of Tupelo, MS; and two great-grandchildren, Steve Larson and Margot Larson. NeNe was excited about her 3rd great-grandchild, a little girl, due in April 2026.
Visitation is planned for Friday, November 21, 2025, in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 11:00AM until 1:00PM. Services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Fred Eakes officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Water Valley, MS.
